Planting times

Phil plants his seeds including his giant pumpkin seeds. He likes to start those off inside the house. Phil has made an indoor greenhouse out of clear large storage bins. He likes to treat his pumpkins extra special!

All the other plants he planted outside in long rows inside the recently tilled garden. Phil is a little concerned about weeding this year. With the garden not much smaller than last year, we had a heck of a time keeping up with the weeds.

Phil planted
  • Three types of lettuce
  • Two types of onions.
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Peas
  • PUMPKINS! (indoors)

Rotilling

Phil tills his garden. Last year his garden was 30x40 this year he made the garden a bit smaller. Phil borrowed the neighbors rototiller and tilled in steer manure and bark mulch. He shifted his garden over a bit from last year and had to break up new soil. That means pulling out lots of rocks out of the garden.

Now It's Time to Prepare

We moved the garden over 15 feet to make room in our yard. This required Phil to rototill a new area to shift his garden over. He rototilled lime and potting soil into the garden. The next day Phil purchased clover seed and spread that around the garden to add nitrogen.

Starting Something New

After the annual Egnew BBQ it was requested that Phil start a blog about his garden. That means when, where and what is being planted in his garden.
